Construction site Portable Restrooms

Construction-site Portable Restrooms Offer More than Just One, Obvious Benefit

It can't be argued that construction sites, regardless of size, need portable restrooms to be readily available for workers to use, at a moment's notice. In fact, having portable restrooms in proximity to construction-work activity is the law. Most people, though, don't give much thought to portable restrooms they might see at any, given, construction site other than the fact that they are there for one obvious reason: to offer relief when nature calls. This is true. However, construction-site portable restrooms do more than just act as a convenient relief station.

Construction-sitePortable RestroomsOptimize Worker Productivity

When portable restrooms are on-site, construction employees utilize their work time, more effectively, since less time is spent finding a restroom, elsewhere. This simple fact was found to be true when the first construction-site portable restrooms were introduced in the 1940s at shipyards in Long Beach, California. Initially, workers were forced to walk to the nearest on-shore restrooms which used up valuable work time going to, and from. An insightful supervisor realized having portable restrooms near by, on site, would ensure that valuable work time would be maximized – he was right! Project productivity was optimized and deadlines were, more successfully, met.

Imagine, just a for a moment, if construction crews were forced to relieve themselves on the construction site due to portable restrooms not being available. It conjures up some unsavory images. More importantly, this type of Medieval practice would wreak havoc with bacteria and virus-borne illnesses having an opportunity to run rampant.

Historians tell us that the Black Plaque intensified, in part, due to human waste languishing along the sides of streets. That contributing factor, combined with infected rats, permitted diseases to reach epidemic proportions. According to the Journal of Medieval History, the Black Plague was, partially, initiated by “...the lack of a safe system for waste disposal”. A little-known fact: the death anddevastation of the Black Plague reached the Arctic Circle by 1350! The 'rest is history', as they say.

Though the Black Plague may seem like an over-zealous example of how uncontrolled human waste can contribute to disastrous results, the fact remains that construction-site portable restrooms do their part to keep harmful pathogens at bay. That kind of protection is beneficial to all of us!

Specially-formulated biocides in the water solution prevent bacteria from massively multiplying. For this reason, portable restrooms – whether on a construction site or elsewhere – should be viewed as welcome additions to any outdoor event. After all, nothing is quite as important as our health!

Construction-site Portable Restrooms Help with Regulation Compliance

State and federal laws mandate that portable restrooms must be located on construction sites, and OSHA remains the most well-known regulator. OSHA states that not only are construction-site portable restrooms to be made available, but it dictates the number of units that must be on-site per the number of workers. When there are 20 workers or fewer, only one portable restroom is required. When more than 20 workers are present, 1 toilet and 1 urinal must be available. If there are more than 200 employees, 1 toilet and 1 urinal is required for every 50 workers. OSHA sets other guidelines, as well. Having construction-site portable restrooms available, for immediate access, is an easy way to adhere to important rules and regulations that, otherwise, could result in steep fines.
