Keeping a portable toilet warm durning cold weather

Keeping Port-a-Potties Warmer During Cold-Day Events

Never be led to believe that port-a-potties are a seasonal item that can be used only during warmer times of the year. Nothing could be further from the truth – these indispensable facilities perform beautifully even during frigid weather. The key to that fact lies with doing a few extra things to ensure these babies don't freeze when the temps plummet. Also, keeping the interiors warmer than the outside temps is important to enhance one's restroom experience when an inside bathroom is unavailable or less convenient.

From ice-fishing to winter-time construction activities to hot-tub parties (yes, colder weather is the most enjoyable time for these) port-a-potties add an undisputed convenience that is immediate and appreciated – no leaving your fishing hole to go off into the woods to find a relief spot and no traipsing through your home, with wet bathing suits, to the nearest bathroom! Port-a-potties can be placed, virtually, anywhere when the weather is cold. They will 'keep on, keeping on' as long the following cold-weather interventions are, in place:

Add Anti-Freeze Solution to Keep Water 'Warmer'

To ensure winter-use port-a-potties remain operational, a technician would add a non-toxic solution to the water to keep it from freezing. Also, brine solutions can keep port-a-potties working throughout the winter months. If you own a port-a-potty, just add a half-pound of rock salt per gallon of water to prevent the water tanks from freezing. This will work well for temperatures as cold as 26 degrees Fahrenheit. By adding 2 pounds of rock salt per gallon, your port-a-potties will be safe even if temps were to plummet to 0 degrees Fahrenheit. It should be noted, however, that brine solutions are corrosive which means only tanks made of stainless steel or aluminum would be good candidates for this type of remedy. If you are unsure, in any way, regarding rock salt or brine solutions, be sure to contact a professional!

De-icing salt can, also, be used to combat the effects of the cold. De-icing salt can be purchased in crystal form and used just like rock salt, or it can be purchased as a 30% liquid solution. Again, if you are ever unsure of which products to use, always consult an expert in the field of portable sanitation.

Then, there is methanol which can be used to keep port-a-potty water from freezing. Methanol does not require mixing – just pour into the tank. Methanol is not corrosive but great care should be used with this product since, if misused, it can become flammable. One should be very familiar with the usage of this product before using it in any port-a-potty unit.

Be sure to never add any chemicals or other additives to any port-a-potty rental. The sanitation provider will perform any proactive measures to keep your port-a-potty rental in working order.

Give Port-a-Potties Access to Direct Sunlight

Even direct sunlight during the coldest time of year can make a port-a-potty more toasty. The radiated heat from the outside walls will allow solar warming to generate a noticeable difference, on the inside!

Shield Port-a-Potties From Strong Winds

Just like direct sunlight can create increased warmth to a port-a-potty's enclosed interior, strong winds will do their best to increase the chill of the inside. Knowing what areas would offer optimized protection from those cold northerly winds is key – a solid fence, wall, building, or other structure would contribute towards keeping a port-a-potty that much warmer.

Place Port-a-Potties Inside

By 'inside' it would mean in a garage, for example, near a hot-tub if that kind of party is being planned. On a construction site, if any allowable structure is available, it would be prudent to take advantage of that type of shelter to keep the bitter cold, at bay – anything to keep the restroom experience a tad more tolerable during those cold days!

Utilize a Small Portable Heater

Through the use of a small, portable heater the restroom experience can be maximally enhanced! The warmth would be a welcome feel during those days when the cold has no mercy.

Consider a Luxury Restroom Trailer

If you want the ultimate in cold-weather port-a-potty warmth, consider a luxury restroom trailer with a built-in heating system. Granted, many cold-weather-event planners would opt to use basic port-a-potty models. However, IF you want to take that extra step towards the ultimate in portable restroom comfort, luxury restroom trailers would be considered the epitome of soothing relaxation on the coldest of days!
