Welcome to Westway Site Services formerly Moore Cans! We provide an entire fleet of porta-potties for construction use, and we are here to help your construction site operate in an optimally-sanitized, safer manner. Not only must your construction company abide by a slew of state and federal regulations concerning every aspect of your operations, but the placement of porta-potties is subjected to its own set of guidelines.
To begin with, construction porta-potty locations…
… Need to Be Accessible
The delivery, cleaning, and retrieval of construction port-potties must be done in a safe, efficient manner. Our drivers will need a clear path so our delivery truck can access the porta-potty location(s) to position them, maintain them, and remove them, when needed.
As far as janitorial services are concerned, we recommend the sanitizing and the restocking of supplies to occur at least once, preferably twice, a week. It is important to allow sanitation trucks at least 20 feet of clear space so they can get close enough to your construction porta-potties in order to easily hook up and pump the waste from the units.
… Need to Be Reliable
Any areas used for your construction-site porta-potties absolutely must have three attributes – they must be: 1) level 2) solid and 3) dry. The last thing you want is for one or more porta-potties to tip over due to ground instability, especially during a high wind. Wind-related damage can be avoided or minimized if porta-potties are positioned against a fence, wall or sturdy structure. Porta-potties can, also, be staked to the ground as an added measure of protection from the wind.
Think, too, about heavy rains – they can cause porta-potties placed on grassy or dirt areas to sink. If units sink too much, retrieving the units can become a real challenge. Ideally, construction site porta-potties should be placed on a concrete slab or another equally-sturdy surface
… Need to Be Kept Safe
Unfortunately, pranksters and thieves can wreak havoc at construction sites. As a side note, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics shares some daunting insight: out of the top 10 states ranked for the most construction equipment theft, Texas ranks #2 behind California. Some individuals think nothing of stealing construction equipment and that same mindset thinks nothing of destroying porta-potties for the sheer 'fun' of it. Tipping them over, applying graffiti, and other acts of thoughtlessness are not uncommon. For this reason, construction porta-potties should be in an area that would discourage trouble-makers from entering. This can be accomplished through the use of temporary fencing or heavy barricades. Additionally, each restroom door should be padlocked during overnight hours.
As a side-note: It is always a good idea to keep abreast of state and federal rules and regulations that continually change regarding construction-sites, and part of those rules have to do with porta-potties, per se. A number to keep handy would be for OSHA: 1-800-321-6742.
